After four games against South Hampstead and two against fellow Ealing teams, we finally got to play different opposition against Chiswick away.
Once again we lost the toss and were put into bowl. Having excelled for the Bs and in the IFL, Alex made his Phoenix debut and was presented with his Phoenix Cap before the game.
As has been the trademark of our season, we excelled in the field, taking a massive 14 wickets. Dev had a three wicket maiden, while Anay finished with two. Amay and Simon got two run outs apiece (Simon now has 10 run outs for the season) and we were tight in the field, with excellent backing up, energy and communication. Chiswick finished on 274-14, a modest net score of 204.
This season, we have felt that we could have scored more runs and we challenged all the players to think about how they can get to 10 runs each (ignoring any runs deducted for wickets). The boys rose to the challenge, Simon and Amay opened with Simon top scoring with 27. The boys that followed batted confidently and you could see them looking for runs where they could, with almost all reaching the minimum 10 run target (with the rest mainly facing fewer legal deliveries). Ayaan hit two successive glorious back foot cover drives each for four while Anay matched Simon's 6 with an almost identical shot. We finished with a magnificent 353-1, net score of 347.
We will face tougher opposition in the future but the manner of today's win shows just how well this U9 team is doing in an U10 league.
