This fixture we travelled south of the river for a wonderful friendly against our friends from Richmond.
Cole made his Phoenix debut having excelled for the U9Bs and the IFL team and received his cap before the game.
The game was an opportunity to test ourselves against some quality batters and try some new things.
Phoenix batted first, for only the second time this season and for the second time this week Simon and Amay gave us a very strong start. This was followed up by a season best for the team from Joe scoring 37 including 6 fours in a player of the game performance. Excellent running between the wickets and a couple of lovely 6s at the end took us to a huge total of 362-6 (net score of 332).
Bowling and fielding has been a particular strength this season and when Simon bowled the opening batter first ball we might be forgiven for thinking it would be a walkover. It wasn't. Richmond displayed some of the best batting we have seen against us and really tested our bowlers. Cole on debut took two wickets which helped keep the score down and some sloppy play in the outfield saw then get a lot closer to the total than we might have expected.
Still, we did enough to win which was very pleasing given the quality of some of Richmond's play. The game was played in a wonderful spirit and we look forward to playing them again in the future.
