Another strong performance today saw Ealing beat Acton by 34 runs in the return fixture at Popesfield.
In hot and sunny conditions – what a great summer this is turning out to be – Ealing lost the toss and were asked to bowl first on what looked like a very green but flat looking batting wicket (on closer inspection it turned out to be an AstroTurf strip…)
Despite 4 byes coming from the very first ball, a wicket shortly after in the first over set the tone for some tight bowling from the Ealing attack.
Acton finished on 291 and having lost only 3 wickets they may have hoped for more, hitting only 4 boundaries throughout and with a bonus 66 runs going to Acton courtesy of 33 wides bowled by Ealing – something still to work on!
Ealing’s reply got off to a cracking start with a flurry of boundaries from the opening pair!
Momentum was maintained throughput and at the end of the 20 overs Ealing had amassed 325 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, one of which down to a superb direct hit run out as Ealing tried to scamper yet another quick single.
Opportunities for improvement include clear calling and responding for runs when batting – which batter should be making the calls etc - and calling out who should take the high catches when in the field!
All round another superb effort, well done all!!
