Ealing travelled to Uxbridge for what would be an 8 a side contest. We had a good team that included Tayyab M’s younger brother Easa who is just 7 years old. Zuhayr K, our captain for the day lost the toss and we were put into bat. Zuhayr K himself opened the batting alongside Ruben B and set the tone early by playing positively. He put the bad balls away effectively and defended the good balls. He creamed six balls to the boundary on what proved to be a quick outfield, with my favourite being a cover drive that was perfectly timed. Another notable batting performance was from Paul B who used his full strength and power to pull a ball over the boundary rope for 6, as well as hit three additional 4’s. Individual batting scores were Zuhayr K (26), Ruben B (1), Tayyab M (10), Easa M (6), Aidan M (13), Tanush W (5), Paul B (22), Lucas SA (7). At the end of our innings we scored 309 for 6. Some of the wickets we lost were down to missing a straight ball. Hence not playing with a straight bat and some ordinary running between the wickets resulting in run outs.

However, at the half way point, we knew we were in a strong position. Zuhayr K opened the bowling and dented the opposition chances of competing by bowling quickly and accurately. He obtained two wickets in the first over, both by hitting the timber and putting a sense of panic into the competitive Uxbridge coach. This resulted in him having to speak to his batsmen and give them a sense of direction. The boys continued to work hard in the field by being vocal and constantly encouraging each other. There were a couple of run outs instigated by Lucas SA and a superb direct hit from Tayyab M, that cemented the final nail in the coffin for the opposition. Uxbridge finished their 16 overs on 287-5, and therefore Ealing won the game by 22 runs. It could have been an even bigger margin had the final over not gone for so many runs. Wickets were shared between Zuhayr K (2) and Tayyab (1), with the remaining 2 coming courtesy of run outs.

So a decent team performance which gives us a 2-0 score line against Uxbridge for this season. We go again this Sunday, this time at Ealing Hanwellians
