Ealing win local bragging rights

The weather was better than perfect for a game of cricket at Brentham Cricket Club (BCC). This was Ealing CC’s (ECC) first double header with Omar taking the other game at SKLP in Northolt. Our game was played under the following rules:

10 players per side
Score starts at 200
Lose 5 runs for each wicket
Each pair bats for 4 overs

Scorer – Steve Brooke

Wicket Keeper: Numerous

BCC had brought 14 players as they wanted to give all their players a bit of a run out. Had I known earlier I would have done the same, however, we agreed to stick to the prescribed 20 overs.

Aman was the captain and having won the toss elected correctly to bowl first. He rallied the troops and provided some leadership and encouragement but most importantly, told the boys to have lots of ‘FUN’! The game started at a lively pace with ECC picking up 3 quick wickets in the first 4 overs, however still managed to give away 6 wides as extras. However, this was made up with some good bowling from Jake and Jamie and some terrific catching from Nicolas, Conleth and Arran!

More was to follow with some good bowling from Ryan, Lucas/Aidan straight bowling a BCC player, and impressive and consistent set of figures from Arran. The last pairing of Jack and Aman followed and though expensive, were able to maintain the consistency of some solid straight bowling. A number of resulting run-outs showed the maturity of learning the boys have gained, this was impressive to see and the parents, who were all enjoying their strawberries and cream, were enjoying the proceedings :)

BCC finished on 240/9, note they did give all 14 of their players a chance.

Time to bat and ECC took little time to get into a steady state. It was good to see boys taking their time and thinking about their positions and watching the ball. It was a delight to watch a number of the boys smashing 4’s including Nicholas, Ryan, Aidan and Arran (2). The bowling from BCC was somewhat wayward and I was very forgiving after the 11th over, besides this was about learning and having some FUN!. Aidan B top scored with 18 runs with Arran and Nicolas both on a very respectable 13 each. ECC finished on 295/3

All in all, I was pleased with the boys efforts and they did Ealing CC proud. I’m sure they will continue to work hard on those weaker areas, especially as we start to face sterner competition over the coming weeks and months. Well done all!"
