Richmond show their class and dump Ealing out of the Gubby Allen

Ealing travelled to Richmond for the Gubby Allen quarter-final game against Richmond. This was envisaged as being our biggest test to date and it certainly proved to be the case. After losing the toss, we were asked to bat first. Our team which was not far off full strength was not really able to get after their bowling. The Richmond team which consisted of county, regional and borough players bowled a good line and length and only gave away 1 wide and 2 no balls in the whole innings. In the end we managed to score 71 runs from our 16 overs. We lost 5 wickets which brought our total score down to 46. Plus the 200 we start on meant we ended our innings on 246

Defending 246 was always going to be a big ask against a team like Richmond. We needed early wickets to keep the pressure on, but unfortunately that didn't happen. Richmond played positively from the start, improvising a lot of shots to the boundary and reached the target in their 7th over. However, Ealing still fought right to the bitter end, not giving up and showing some great character. Richmond finished their innings on 320 from their 16 overs and didn't lose a wicket in the process. Therefore winning by 74 runs

So there are positives to take from this game:

In extras, we only gave away 7 byes, 7 wides and 3 no balls
Richmond had to work for their wickets. Most of their wickets came from good deliveries. We never gave our wickets away
We were always behind the eight ball, but showed our character by fighting all the way

So unfortunately, we have now exited the competition and Richmond have gone through to the semi-finals. They fully deserved their victory, and were better than us in all disciplines. But we leave the competition with our heads held high. We have performed excellently in this competition, but came across a well drilled Richmond side in the quarter finals. There certainly is no disgrace in losing to Richmond. They will take some beating
