It is a great pleasure to report victory for the U11B team against Chiswick. However, things didn't start so well. Put into bat by Chiswick, we were 12 for 4 in the fifth over and a short game looked entirely possible. But a strong partnership between Tom and George stopped the momentum of the Chiswick bowling attack. The lower order batsmen then all played their part. Although none notched up any high individual scores, their good calling and quick running between the wickets ensured all possible singles were taken to finish the innings on a respectable 81 for 9.
Would this be enough? Hope was raised with their first wicket falling on the second ball. Good length deliveries by all our bowlers and solid fielding all round kept the run rate low. After an good opportunistic stumping by Tom Haynes the team could sense victory. As the sun set and a cold wind picked up, the team kept up the good performance, exemplified by Arjan taking 2 wickets in the final over and Chris staying calm under the high ball to secure a victory by 30 runs. Well done, a great team effort!
