After several attempts to play this match, the last being stopped after 5 overs with torrential rain, it was a relief to see the sun shining. Despite the floods of the day before, the pitch was fortunately playable, though quite slow.
Put in to bat first, we had a shocker of a start, losing 3 key wickets early, largely through misjudging decent balls and trying to whack them! Rian (23 n/o) and TK (20) brought some composure to the batting but on a difficult wicket and slow outfield, with Acton bowling very well, we struggled to get the run rate up and set what looked to be too low a total.
However an early run out (great throw from Adi) and a couple of early wickets from Isaac (bowling superbly for 2 for 8) gave the team some hope. A strong bowling performance kept the run rate low and added more wickets, but a few too many wides gave cause for concern given the low total being chased. Ted (1 for 6), Ludo (1 for 1), Shivan (1 for 10), and all the bowlers did well, and the level of concentration in the field was really good. A couple of run outs, as Acton chased down the total, helped keep the total down and in the end we finished up winners by 10 runs. An exciting and nail bitingly close match!
