Ealing see off Sunbury

Turning up to Wembley CC and looking at the pitch we all said if we don’t win the toss and bat first we had no chance winning the game. Well just that happened as we lost the toss and were put in to bat on an extremely green deck. Robbie Connelly (56) and Andre Raubenheimer (60) got Ealing off to an absolute flier with an opening partnership of 110 off only 14 overs. Ludo Rhys-Williams (55) and Ned Harris (55) batted superbly in the middle overs and ensured there was no collapse. Some good late hitting from Ollie O’Brien (14) saw Ealing end on 294-9 from there 40 overs.

Ealing were 50 runs above par and at tea the lads knew if they bowled tightly and fielded well that this game would be out of Sunburys reach.

Sunbury came out with attacking intent and from the off tried to keep up with the required run rate but an excellent opening spell from Ned Harris (2-17) saw Sunbury lose 2 early wickets. Pavan Sidhu (1-30) got a wicket early in his spell and now Sunbury were 50-3 after 9 overs and Ealing were dominating. Sunbury started to put pressure on the Ealing bowlers and often finding the boundary and were getting back into the game. However Ludo Williams (3-23) got a wicket in his first over thanks to a superb catch by Robbie Connelly behind the stumps and Ealing had there buzz back. A good late spell from Andre Raubenheimer (3-13) saw Sunbury fall 101 runs short and Ealing were the Middlesex cup u17 champions!

The u17s try and do the double with finals day on the 26th August hoping they can bring 2 trophies back to Corfton road this season.
