Following a solid win against Teddington in week 8, Ealing travelled to local rivals Osterley.
At easily one of the worst grounds in the County League, with daisies plentiful on the clearly uncut outfield, it was a difficult decision at the toss, with the boys having struggled chasing in the first half of the season.
On a pitch where a good score was unpredictable, Fairs won the toss and elected to bowl, hoping to find out what a competitive total would be.
Unfortunately, Ealing’s bowlers didn’t allow the Osterley batsmen to show us. Having been bowled out for 70 and 80 ish in the previous two weeks, Osterley came out swinging, only to conduct their own demise.
With clever bowling from Growler, pace from Tendulkar, consistency from Fell and assistance from Dewhurst, Henri and Faraz, the hosts were dismissed for 131. Fell the pick of the bowlers with 3-24 from his 9, Faraz and Dewhurst picking up a brace each and one a piece for the other three seamers.
It soon became clear that a potentially niggly total would prove to be a simple task for the Ealing top order.
With an unthreatening bowling attack provided by Osterley, the E-men set about securing 10 points, with Ciaran getting his first 2’s 50, and Tattersall finishing on 58* (although he tried his best to get out on 40, again).
A solid win for the boys to finish off the first half of the season. We go again at Corfton Road next week, looking to make it 3 from 3.
