The 2021 Cricket Season

The 2021 Cricket Season

Louise Chippendale26 Mar 2021 - 14:23

Looking forward to a full season of cricket...

Following recent Government announcements and advice from the England & Wales Cricket Board, we are looking forward to the new cricket season with great anticipation and, while we may be subject to certain restrictions, we expect to be able to have a full season, both for Adults and Juniors.

As a first step, we will be re-opening our playing facilities from 29 March 2021, as follows:

  • Premier Cricket Coaching holiday courses will run at Popesfield from:
    • 29 March to 1 April
    • 6 April to 9 April (already sold out)
    • 12 April to 15 April

  • Outdoor cricket training will start in the week commencing 12 April

  • Junior League matches will be played from 18 April 2021 and the Senior League season will start on 8 May 2021.

  • As many members may be aware, at the end of last season we commenced a project to re-level the outfield at our main ground in Corfton Road, Ealing. Unfortunately, October 2020 was the wettest on record and the work was not able to be finished before the winter. With continued heavy rain throughout the winter, the work has only just been completed. This will mean that the outfield at Corfton Road will not be available for an initial period, which we hope will not extend beyond the end of April, and this will cause some temporary disruption to our cricket activities:

  • There will be no cricket matches at Corfton Road until May 2021

  • Until the end of April 2021, our training activities will be conducted using Popesfield, Brentfield and William Perkin School and limited use of the nets at Corfton Road.

  • We will publish the detailed training schedule on the Club’s website and we will be writing to parents of Junior members shortly to let them know what the arrangements are for their children.

  • Our plans have been hampered by the fact that the Junior registration process has been delayed due to the pandemic and we are therefore not yet sure how many Junior members we will have at each age group this year. We would therefore be very grateful if all Junior members could now be registered ASAP and certainly prior to 12 April 2021. If renewing membership would present a financial challenge, please contact James Grigg, Secretary of the Club & Head of Junior Cricket (james.grigg@ealingcc.co.uk) and/or Martin Turner, Membership Secretary (martin.turner@ealingcc.co.uk).

Members’ use of the Club’s practice nets facilities outside the Club’s organised training sessions will also be restricted both due to the Covid pandemic and the situation regarding the outfield at Corfton Road. The Club will be publishing a timetable indicating when members will be able to use its practice nets facilities and, as happened last season, we will be implementing a booking system to ensure that the use of the nets is safe and compliant with Government guidelines.

Assuming the Government’s road-map timetable remains in place, we will be re-opening the bar in the pavilion at Corfton Road for outdoor service on Monday 12 April. More details will be provided once this date in confirmed.
