As you will have read, this year’s President’s Day was a very special day of celebrations. Not only were we able to honour our wonderful President, Bob Fisher but we also took the opportunity of also honouring five individuals (including Bob) who have all reached their 70th year of membership of our great Club.
Bob, Alan Price, John Lindley, David Fenton and Willie Shaw were joined at Corfton Road by nearly 100 guests on a very hot and sunny 21st July last. Some had been associated with the Club since the 1950s and there were many past players in attendance from the 1960s right up to the 2020s.
The “Famous Five” were all great individual players but importantly always performed as team members to further the success of the Club. Between them, they amassed 80000+ runs, 11000+ wickets and took in excess of 3500 catches with Bob also taking over 500+ stumpings.
Their contribution off the field was enormous and each of them served on the Club Committee for many years, working on behalf of the Club in many and varied roles and using their individual skills and experience for the benefit of the Club.
Each of them was presented with a “70th Certificate” on President’s Day and with the benefit of the photographs that were taken, we will be marking the achievement by creating a framed collage which will take pride of place in the picture gallery in the Pavilion.
Greg Fitzpatrick was honoured to act as MC on the day and to speak about 5 members who have been his friends for so many years. They thoroughly deserved this accolade and it was clear they really enjoyed their day watching a great game of cricket and celebrating with so many of their old friends and team mates.
A big thank you to all of you who sent some wonderful messages about President’s Day, to the players who played an entertaining and competitive game and to the attendees who helped to make it such a special occasion.
