We’re excited to launch a new fundraising initiative to support the development of our Juniors — and we need your help.
We are raising funds to purchase 2G Junior Multi-Age Pitches from Flicx, specially designed to provide a safe, consistent, and high-quality playing surface for our Junior cricketers. These portable pitches can be used on grass, astro, or indoors, giving our Juniors more opportunities to train and play with confidence — wherever they are.
By providing dedicated junior pitches, we’re making a long-term investment in the future of the club, and most importantly, creating more opportunities for every child to enjoy the game, build their skills, and fall in love with cricket.
This initiative is being run in proud association with The Peter Hughes Foundation, whose support helps us champion safety, opportunity, and a lifelong love of the game at grassroots level.
Our fundraising goal is £10,000, and every donation brings us one step closer to giving our youngest members the very best start in cricket.
To bring everyone together and make this fun, we’re asking each age group to be challenged to improve a specific cricket skill, as set out below:
Age Groups | Drills
U7
Batting Tees - Learning to move into the ball, quick runs and safe catches with soft ball.
Bowling – Rotation of arms and alignment.
U8
Baseball High Tees – Learning to pull the ball. Fielders to catch the ball & throw the ball back to the coach.
Bowling – Rotation of arms and alignment.
U9
Driving the ball through cones, running between the wickets, understanding the front foot drive and pull shot, (under arm throws). Play a game to introduce the shots above in a match scenario.
U10
Close catching technique, (cricket and soft balls). High catches – Increase the distance to throw the ball.
U11
Bowling technique full Action - Target bowling, hitting a good length.
Batting – Able to maneuver the ball through cones and finding singles.
U12
Fielding Technique – Pick up and Throw.
Attacking the ball through the cones, clean pick up and throw the ball over the stumps to the keeper.
U13
Batting – Able to use the feet against spin. Underarm throws to get to the pitch of the ball to either strike the ball over the top or maneuvering to get off the strike.
U14
Target bowling – Nailing wide Yorkers, back of a length and variations.
U15
Decision making games – Area where they need to hit the ball in the pockets. Throw the ball at different lengths for the batters to make the right decision.
U16
Ladders, hurdles, cones & cricket balls. Players to be in a static position on the back foot before landing on the front foot. Walk through, over hurdles to bowl at a partner. Jog through, increasing the runup speed.
U17
Power Hitting – Hitting the ball over the top and on the floor with maximum force. Using the heavy balls for technical work, under arm and over arm throws to hit the ball in different areas.
Each junior member will have a small individual fundraising target, but our real goal is for every age group to work collectively toward our shared ambition. To drive this forward, each group will be championed by one of our Trustees - click on the link below to find out more.

We’ll keep you updated on skill progress, fundraising milestones, and more — but you can check in anytime by clicking on the link and press on 'challenges' to get to individual age group pages.
Next Steps
Please go to your age group page and share the link with friends and family to raise sponsorship - ask your child to help - every £1 gets us closer to our goal
Encourage your child to practice their skill – we’ll be celebrating effort as much as success!
Team managers and coaches will be working across the age groups to practice the specific skill and record progress
Thank you for supporting this initiative. Together, with the Peter Hughes Foundation, we can continue to give our members the best possible experience of cricket.
Warm regards,
David Holt and The Board of Trustees
