Stanmore vs Ealing U8s
By Chad Barrett
Another strong performance on Sunday saw Ealing beat Stanmore by 64 runs away at Stanmore CC.
On another sun-drenched morning Ealing batted first on a dry and parched Stanmore CC pitch and, making the most of some wayward yet enthusiastic bowling, amassed a huge score of 352.
Not only did the scoreboard race along – assisted by a fair contribution from wides - but the innings was completed without losing any wickets, a first for this season and surely the best batting performance so far!
Ealing’s bowling and fielding performance almost surpassed the batting heroics, a great start from the opening bowlers with a wicket falling in each of the first 2 overs setting the tone.
Throughout, and in stifling heat, Ealing remained focused and sharp, holding catches, stopping the ball well both behind the stumps and in the outfield, the icing on the cake being 2 wickets falling to direct hit run outs!!
On further occasions - although batsmen had made their ground - fielders were throwing down the stumps often from outfield positions – that Friday night practise must be paying off!
As well as great fielding and batting, improvements were also noted in disciplines such as running between the wickets, clear calling and responding for runs when batting.
Ealing under 8’s performances this summer are proving to be as consistent as the hot weather!
All round another superb and all-round effort, well done all!!
