South Hampstead 284-8 Ealing 309-4

On yet another hot and sunny day in the capital, Ealing opened the match bowling against South Hampstead, looking to take advantage of a lightning quick track. The boys’ efforts in the field were lively and energetic. With lots of vocal support and hard running in the field, in spite of the searing heat the Ealing fielding performance was tireless.

South Hampstead went about their run scoring in a steady fashion but the loss of 8 wickets pegged them back to what seemed a modest score of 284 for 8. All the boys bowled well with the pick of the action coming from a sharp C&B from Harry M.

As Ealing came to the field to begin their reply the blue sky had been replaced with extensive cloud cover which favoured the seam and swing bowling that South Hampstead are well known for. Solid bowling and some very determined fielding restricted our openers to 208 for 1. In the early part of the innings run accumulation was slow and the run rate required was edging ever higher. A generous interpretation of the wide ball rule was also hindering progress.

Yash and Dawood sensed the urgency of the situation and upped the pace of the reply, at 268 for 3 in the 18th over the game was now finely balanced. Things were coming to a boil now on and off the pitch and as we entered the 21st over a winning total now loomed on the horizon.

Our final pair of Yash and Ronit kept the scoreboard ticking over with some lovely shot selections an exciting way to bring the innings to a close.

309 for 4 and a well-deserved win. Well done Boys a great performance.
