Ealing U8s vs Eastcote
By Chad Barrett
The Ealing Under 8s came up against a strong Eastcote side at the Popesfield ground. Ealing fielded on a beautiful sunny morning and put up a strong performance. The first over was a maiden and all the bowling was fairly tight. Eastcote scored 311 for 2 from their 20 overs (remember that they start on 200 and lose 5 runs for each wicket that falls) so their final score was 301. One of the wickets was bowled and the other was run out. There were a few other chances of a run out but the Eastcote batters gave very little away.
So, chasing a big score, Ealing made a positive start. Unfortunately some very accurate Eastcote bowling proved hard to score runs from. Ealing ended up scoring 264 for 6 wickets so our final score was 234. The Eastcote fielding was mostly good, although they did drop several catches.
There are a couple of things we can try to work on:
1. Trying to reduce the number of wides we bowl. We bowled 29 wides and Eastcote bowled 10 so that is 38 runs we gave them. There are always going to be some wides, but if we can reduce the number a little bit that will help us.
2. When we are fielding, getting to the stumps to be ready to receive the throw from the fielder. This will make it harder for the other side to score runs and will increase our chances of getting run outs.
Well done to all the boys on a spirited morning's play.
