The game was played using the following rules:
20 over game
10 players a side
Each team starts on 200
Lose 4 runs for each wicket
'No-balls' and 'Wides' give away 2 runs and are not re-bowled
This was a game built with frustration and joy. Ealing won the toss and elected to field. There were some promising bowling efforts, but we bowled 15 wides and 3 no-balls which accumulated to 36 runs being given away. The stand out bowler was Zuhayr who bowled with some venom and took 2 wickets without any runs being taken off him. The remaining 3 wickets were shared between Arvin, Alexander G and a clever run out from Tom who realised that running with the ball to hit the stumps was the best option following a suicidal attempt of a run.
The fielding was generally good with a couple of neat catches taken by Ryan G and Zuhayr, but we let ourselves down in some areas by not adopting the long barrier to stop the ball and also not backing up a fielder who was attempting a run-out
At the half-way mark, we needed 268 to win the game, and we didn't get off to the best of starts because we lost 2 wickets in 2 overs. We slowly recovered and didn't lose another wicket until the 9th over. The stand out batsman was notably Paul who didn't lose a wicket and hit 17 runs, which included 3 fours which were all creamed to the boundary. Ryan G was the next highest scorer with 10 runs and he also didn't lose a wicket. A slight disappointment regarding our batting was that we lost 8 wickets in total. This is an area we will need to work on moving forward
When the last pair went into bat, we were 12 runs ahead of the required total, but 2 wickets in quick succession gave Teddington some momentum and it meant I had to advise both Zuhayr and Aaron K to just bat out the remaining deliveries, rather than try out any heroics. They followed my instructions and we ended up winning the game by 4 runs
