EALING 5XI VS PERIVALE PHOENICIANS 3XI
By Chad Barrett
Perivale Phoenicians won the toss and elected to bat. 45 Over Game
Great sunny weather for cricket.
The Younis brothers started the opening spell with the ball. Waseeb bowling against the wind getting a lot of early out swing and picking up 2 early wickets, including 1 in the opening over of the game. Haseeb on the other end also troubling the batsman to put a dent in the scores.
52-3 sees a bowling change bringing Virk Singh into the mix, though it seems the batsman fancy his pace and able to put him away for some easy runs releasing some pressure on the batting team.
Punit Fatania then joins the new bowler on the other end to help slow it down with his talented leg spin ability. Though it seems batsman are settled in and scoring away until the Captain takes a spectacular catch covering a lot of ground at the boundary sweeping towards cow corner.
Scores now at 172-5 and the skipper decides to bring Haseeb Younis back on strike and it pays off well as batsman fumbles one up and the skipper capitalizes with a second catch.
A new bowling change brings Adil Waseem and Ade Gupta changing both ends with spinners to keep the final overs quiet with the tail enders. Ade gupta bowls a full toss which is pulled away at square leg only for the skipper to take a very low catch and gets the Colt his first Senior cricket wicket. 3 catches for the skipper with the innings to an end at 225 All out in 44.4 Overs.
Now playing against the top team in the division I must say the team fielded pretty well and bowled quite good. Though we can see why they were at the top with their batting strength.
Mujtaba Mohammad and Virk Singh open the batting and we see to a very early mixup between the batsman and ends Mujjy to be run out at 0.
Adil Mukkadam then joins Virk and after hitting a quick 7 runs Adil is LBW, leaving Ealing in a very bad position with 10-2. The main man Adil Wasim has no choice but to go in and stick it out and try to hold the fort the Virk. Both bat very sensible, yet aggressive ensuring we dont fall way too behind the run rate. After a solid 90 runs partnership Virk has a controversial ct behind.
Ealing now at 102-3 after 23 overs fancy their chances to push for the win but have to be sensible with the batting order. Shazad Mohammad joins Adil and as per every game they know what is required from them and they stick in superbly putting a 100 runs partnership before Shazad is bowled out for 47.
With 5 overs to go and the score at 202, Ealing look very comfortable. Just when things are too good to be true Adil gets carried away and is bowled out for 89. With only 3 overs to go Ealing are struggling for runs with ample wickets in hand.
Punit Fatania then goes into the strike. Running singles for absolutely anything and putting the pressure back on the opposition.
With 1 over to go and 3 runs needed. Punit trying to smash everything and missing until he hits a single leaving the new batsman on strike. A wide ball sees the innings at a draw with William Simpson on strike. With 2 balls to go the whole team is on edge and dont know if the young colt will see it through. William front foot defense leads to a roaring YES from punit and they both run securing thr win with 1 ball to spare.
A great game of cricket played in the best of spirits from each and every individual disregarding how crucial the game was to both teams. It was definitely the best the best game played in the season and 1 tough game to skipper.
