It is with deep regret that we announce the sad news that Peter Hughes died peacefully on Tuesday 5th Feb. He was 96 and in the words of his son Simon “he’d had a great innings!”
Simon spoke to John Poore to say that Peter had gone downhill after Christmas and went into hospital with pneumonia on Thursday 31st Jan.
Peter had been a member of Ealing Cricket Club for over 50 years and was a great help to Mervyn Mansell in the early days of Colts Cricket.
He leaves a wife Erica, son Simon Peter Hughes, also known as The Analyst and is an English cricketer and journalist, and daughter Bettany who is a classical historian and broadcaster, plus numerous grandchildren.
There will be a little celebration of his life at the club… More details will be announced soon and it is likely to be in late February.
