Onto the second game of the season. Vs Teddington at home.
This would be a tough game against a side that is always up there in the top half of the table. Ealing lost the toss and were put into bat on a fairly old looking wicket.
The Ealing batters didn’t get off to the greatest possible starts with wickets falling at regular intervals, from a combination of poor shots and a silly run out, that of the skipper (yes, no, sorry ringing in his ear).
Ealing found themselves 68 for 5, however, after a short re-build, new man Hopes/Kevin was bowled leaving the score on 100 for 6. Ashok did make his way to 61 the only real significant contribution and a last wicket run out of Bentos topped off a very poor batting performance. Ealing all out for 169 with extras making up the second highest score (21).
With a score of possibly 20-30 below par, Ealing would need to bowl and field exceptionally well if they were to win. New ball pairing of Godsal and Faraz started well with the former picking up 2 quick wickets. Ealing looked set to be poll position with wickets falling regularly, leaving Teddington languishing at 78 for 7. However, with some poor bowling late on and a complete cock up by the umpire on how many overs the bowlers had left (Taz was said to have bowled out but had 1 left!), a couple of dropped catches and some superb batting by the Teddington number 4 Williams, meant the game came down to the wire with Williams hitting 100* not out to see his side over the line in the last over.
The pick of the Ealing bowlers were Taz with 8-1-23-4, Godsal 9-2-22-2, Bentos 9-0-20-1 and Faraz 9-0-34-1. All the bowlers will need to work much harder on the extras, as giving away 12 wide’s and a no ball doesn’t help when trying defend a low total.
So congrats to Teddington 2s and in particular Williams.
Onto next week and another tough game away to Richmond.
Till next time
