U13As leave Acton with a win
By Nick Pilgrim
No quarter given to Acton as Ealing U13A’s chase down their target in 9 overs.
A reduced 15 over game saw Acton decide to bat first but fail to break through Ealing’s strong bowling attack which saw 8 of the side make solid contributions with the ball, restricting Acton to just 68 off 15 overs.
Special mention to our two U11A players stepping up into the U13 age group, Ayaan Desai and Raoul Flora who bowled with confidence into a strong headwind and never looked out of place in a side fortunate enough to be blessed with County and Borough players. Raoul also picked up a sharp catch off the bowling of Sachin Patel, who was making his debut for ECC and his great throw had their No. 2 batsman run out not even half way down the wicket. Alex and Faris tied Acton down and were as meagre as any Dickens’ character you could care to mention - Alex bowling 3 overs for just 9 runs and Faris 2 overs for just 4. Seshan can count himself unlucky after his first over went for just a single run.
So 69 to win for the mighty E-Men and it was all done in double-quick time with the loss of just 1 wicket. Ludo and Ned strolled out to bat, with Ludo playing the perfect innings to ensure the in-form Ned took the game to Acton and the boys were 44 for no wicket after 5 overs, with Ned hitting three boundaries in a row along the way, until Ludo fell to an excellent caught and bowled. Robbie “Neo” Connelly was in no mood to hang around and a quick fire 14 saw the game to an end as did his newly repaired bat that split when Robbie clubbed a ball back over the bowler’s head.
Extras were unfortunately second top score, so another game, where despite some great bowling the U13s still managed to spray the ball around in the wrong area – again, work to do in training otherwise this problem will return to haunt us later in the season.
All in all a good win – sharp in the field, controlled bowling (most of the time) and solid batting was simply too much for our opposition.
