Ealing 3s edged out in thriller

Sogani heroics cant prevent narrow defeat

The fixture against Teddington saw Ealing kick off their run of home fixtures at Imperial College, the training ground home of Queens Park Rangers. As the squad gathered tales were exchanged of interactions with several QPR greats of recent years. The likes of Barton, Dunne, Mark Hughes and Bobby Zamora were all mentioned in dispatches. Whilst the performance in the opening match of the season was Charlie Austin esque (ruthless, effective), unfortunately this week was more Adel Taraabt (mercurial, frustrating).

Ealing won the toss and batted with the aim of replicating the success of the previous week. Unfortunately wickets fell at regular intervals. Pav Malik batted well for 37, and Virk and Calder added some late runs. The total of 135 all out looked short but nonetheless gave something for Ealing to bowl at.

Ealing started fairly tightly with Massey beating the bat on several occasions down the hill. However runs then started to flow freely as Ealing bowled too many loose balls. At 90/1 things were looking bleak. At this point Sogani was introduced and began to change the game. Turning the ball sharply both ways, he picked up wickets at regular intervals. His final figures of 5/15 were just rewards for his efforts. He bowled well in partnership with Virk, who maintained a tight, wicket to wicket line throughout. When the 8th wicket fell with the score on 132 and Teddington needing four to win, the game was in the balance. However, Teddington managed to get the remaining boundary required to win the game, leaving Ealing with a feeling of what might have been. Overall a disappointing performance but definite positives to take as we head into week 3 away at Richmond.
