Ealing won by 75 runs!

Match report

This match was played at Corfton Road on Monday,6th June, 2011. It is only due to the hard work of the Ealing groundsman, Gareth Shaw, that this match was played as most clubs were forced to call off matches owing to rain the previous evening, throughout the night and in the morning.

On winning the toss, Acton asked Ealing to bat on a slightly damp pitch. With the score on 8, Ealing lost Taz Khalid to a catch at short extra cover. An excellent recovery followed with Gags Khurana and Ollie Marsh batting sensibly until Khurane was excellently caught & bowled by Foster. Nabeel Awan joined Marsh and these two put on 44 in 5.3 overs. Awan struck the ball very well sending it over the boundary 3 times in scoring a rapid 30, propelling the run rate. After his departure, Marsh took over and with the help of Benji Evans enabled Ealing to declare on 156 for 3 after 20 overs. Marsh batted most sensibly in scoring 72no including 5 boundaries and 3 sixes. Evans was not out on 26.

Acton started their innings cautiously and when the 1st wicket fell in the 8th over with the score on 27, they were well behind the required run rate. Whilst they accelarated in the later part of their innings, particularly Khan, they were never going to achieve the target and finished their innings on 81 for 4 wkts in 20 overs. For Ealing, all bowlers bowled very well and it is difficult to single out any one performance. Thus Ealing won by 75 runs to qualify for the South Area final.

The match was played in the best spirit possible and players of both sides have to be congratulated.
