Ealing under 15’s were eliminated from the National under 15 cup on Sunday, 24 July by the cruellest means when they tied with Horsham and, with each side having lost 7 wickets, Ealing went out on a countback of the score at 19 overs.

Ealing struggled to contain a feisty Horsham batting line-up who looked set for a 140 plus score before two tight last two overs bowled by Shaneil Patel and Uzair Khan kept the total within bounds at 126 for 7. 

In the home team’s reply, Jamie Spanswick scored a rapid 38 and Andrew Cox made a determined 39 before he was run out.  But 19 off the last two overs proved just too much.  Shaneil Patel, needing four off the last ball, struck it towards the cover boundary where it was fielded whilst the batsmen crossed for three but in vain.

Consolation came in the Middlesex league knock-out on Monday, 1 August, when the under 15’s got that disappointment out of their system by thrashing Winchmore Hill by the astonishing margin of 117 runs.  Batting first, Ealing were indebted to Harry Britt (85) and Louie Millman (50) in posting an invincible total of 210 for 4.  Winchmore Hill were never in the hunt, Savraj Lotta and Uzair Khan picking up two wickets apiece.

The under 15’s move on to the Middlesex league knock-out quarter-finals, where they will play Uxbridge away ? see website for date to be arranged.
