Match Report

With “Crazy Leigh’s” threat of having to run round the enormous St Benedicts’s field 5 times if they lost, it was little surprise that the U13B’s duly won their league match last night at St Benedicts sports ground.  Batting first, we came up against some early accurate bowling from South Hampstead which saw us get just 4 runs from the first 3 overs.  However, Arthur then stepped into gear hitting 3 quick boundaries on an enormous outfield before holing out for 18 to a catch at midwicket with the score on 28.  Arthur’s opening partner, Hal also followed (LBW) with the score still on 28.  Thereafter, Mungo and BenT set about consolidating the innings taking the score up to 78 before BenT was bowled. BenC departed quickly and it was left to JJ and Mungo to take the score up to 110 with Mungo hitting some aggressive blows to end with an excellent 41 no.

A total of 110 was always going to be too big a total for an inexperienced South Hampstead side on a big outfield. Good accurate bowling from Arthur, Mungo and Will put the brakes on the score and it was only a matter of time before wickets started to tumble.  These duly came with Charles taking 3 quick wickets and 2 wickets each for JJ and Tom.  Excellent catches from Mungo and BenC plus a tidy performance behind the stumps by Alex, our stand-in ?keeper, saw us bowl out the opposition for just 59 runs in the 15th over.
