Colts Round up of the 2010 Season
The colts had a very successful season where the managers did their best to ensure that every one played during the season.
The success of the colts was witnessed by the club winning The Victor Ludorum Trophy presented by the Rotary Club of St. Marylebone to the most successful club in Middlesex between the U11 to U15 age groups. We had just missed out in 2007 by 0.05 points and in 2009 by O.01 point. In 2010 we were the outright winners by a healthy margin.
GIRLS
The U11 age group had about 50 girls registered including 8 who were under 8 and about 40 in the 9-11 age groups. 23 of these played during the season and 4 others played in the Joe Chamberlaine trophy at the colt’s festival. This age group competed for the 1st time in the league and played some encouraging cricket learning a great deal in the process. They will benefit from
this experience.
The U13/15 age groups, being more experienced, did better in the U13 league and the U15 friendlies. We had 4 girls who represented Middlesex in Lauren Oliver, Nancy Bond, Ella Jackson and Preetie Kate which was a great honour for the club. They improved as the season unfolded and produced very encouraging results. We had 6 who participated in the colts festival with
Lauren and Nancy playing on the main square, something that has not happened before.
U9/10
The U9s did not play any competitive cricket but benefitted from the coaching sessions and played games amongst themselves although a few participated in the Joe Chamberlaine trophy at the colts festival and joined the U10s in cricket games. The U10s played in the Bertie Joel Cup competition but unfortunately did not achieve the success they deserved. Again they had some
participation in the U11 age group and in the Joe Chamberlaine trophy at the colts festival.
U11
Overall this age group had a very successful season in they were beaten finalists in the county cup and they won the league cup final in an enthralling match played at
all concerned. There were several excellent individual performances, most of which were rewarded with awards.
U13
The most successful age group this season. The A team won the south area league and cup following 95% success in their matches to this achievement. The Bs also played some excellent cricket to finish well up
in their league and some of their players contributed immensely to the overall success of this age group.
The U13s were very unlucky not to become the National champions having got to that stage after winning the county cup. They were beaten by the weather having played only 2 games to finish runners-up. One more completed match would have, in all probability, ensured the championship. All involved in this age group have to be congratulated for winning the county cup and the county league cup. Again, the team spirit and attitude have to be admired. It is difficult to detail some truly brilliant individual performances by players who have excelled beyond expectations this season.
U15
This age group had a difficult year with lack of availability owing to education demands and they most certainly will do much better in 2011. There were some very encouraging signs with some players exhibiting a lot of confidence and talent and some promising performances.
U17
A mixed bag and a season which did not produce the expected results. Exams, injuries and social commitments ensured that the desired team did not play together in most matches. They won the south area league and were runners up in the county league cup. However, there were some encouraging moments and a few players improved as the short season progressed and hopefully
2011 will be a better season.
