Volunteers and Garden Equipment Needed - 3rd May

Hi All,

On Sunday 3rd May 2015, Ealing Cricket Club will be undergoing a project to clean and restore the area to the left of main entrance. This has been a conservation area since 2004, but is currently in a bit of a mess, with overgrown bushes and rubbish spread throughout the 50 metre wide area.
We will be recruiting a volunteered group of around 30 people (of which I would love anyone who receives this email to join), to tackle this area and restore it to its previous beauty. To do this though, we need to loan some gardening equipment, which is the main purpose for this email. We are looking for:

  • 15 x Spades
  • 15 x Rakes
  • 15 x Forks
  • 15 x Hoes
  • 15 x Wheelbarrows
  • 30 pairs x Gardening Gloves
  • 60 x Garden Waste Bags
  • 1 x Electric Garden Sheer or 3 x Manual Garden Sheers
  • 2 x Leaf Blowers
  • 2 x Grass Strimmers

If you have any of these items that you could loan for one day to the club, this would be greatly appreciated as without the tools, we can’t do the work. All equipment will be labelled up and be ready for collection from the end of the Sunday.

Like I say, equipment is one thing, but the volunteers is another, so please email christopher.glasper@bt.com if you would like to help out on the day. Below is a plan for the day of which I will expand on closer to the time. I need to create a list beforehand to make sure we have enough tools and people to take on the Project, so please let me know.

The plan for this day is a follows:

  • The Date: Sunday 3rd May 2015
  • The Team: I think we realistically need between 15-30 people to do this in one day. Also this date fall on the 3/4/5 cricket match so I’d also ask that when the batting team is batting for them to chip in for 30-60 mins to help out.
  • The Plan: There are 3 main areas I want to tackle in this session.

    1. Outside The Fence: This area needs weeds pulling out and tidied up all along the fence.

    2. The Grassy Knoll: So assigning a section of this to each small group of 2-3 people (depending on numbers), we will need to:

----- Clean the area of rubbish a leaves.

----- Dig the area to remove weeds and turn over soil, whilst removing bad soil.

----- Chop are the mud to remove big soil lumps.

----- Try and level it all out.

    3. Trim The Bushes: So we need to try and tidy up the bushes as we go along as some of them are really overgrown.

  • What Is The Area To Tackle: I’d like to start at the area to the left of the main entrance and work all the way up to the top entrance near the ladies pavilion.

  • The Purpose: So apart from having a nice, tidy and safe area, we could thinking about putting grass seeds down to make extra seating area (potential picnic areas), or an area that we can plant flowers etc to make the ground an even more beautiful attraction.

So please, please come and help out on this day and if not, please spread the word so that we can have all the equipment needed to make this a success.

Many Thanks

Christopher Glasper
