Cup Winning Double for Senior Colts & Academy!

A fantastic end to the season with the Academy and senior colts sides winning both the the Middlesex U21 Development League (MDL) and U17 League Cup in the space of 2 weeks

The Academy side reached the final of the MDL for the first time after an impressive campaign through the summer. In the league stage of the competition, the Academy won 5 of their 6 matches which saw the team qualify for a knock out quarter final against Sheen Park at Corfton Road. The Academy hit a massive 357-8 from their 40 overs (brilliant centuries from both the White brothers) and then restricted Sheen Park to 217 all out ensuring an emphatic win by by 142 runs. An equally emphatic victory in the semi against Harrow CC by 7 wickets pitched the Academy team in the final against Richmond at Richmond CC . Against a Richmond side containing a number of First Team players, our Academy side averaging less than 18 yrs rose to the challenge magnificently bowling out Richmond for just 111. It was a fantastic bowling the fielding effort with Rob Bentley the stand out bowler with a a magnificent spell of 3 for 10 off 8 overs. Set a total of 111 to win, David White led from the front hitting a sublime 76 from just 77 balls as the Academy chased down the target with 13 overs to spare for the loss of 5 wickets. Skipper, David White led from the front throughout both on the field and with the bat scoring 341 runs at an average of over 68. He was well supported with the bat by Sam Turner with 225 runs at an av. of 46 and brother Robbie White White with 200 runs at an av. of 66. Rob Bentley stood out as the leading wicket taker in the competition with 28 wickets at an average strike rate of 3.5 wickets a match at a misery misery run rate. However, it was truly a team effort with over 22 players representing Academy in the tournament and much credit goes to Gavin Calder who captained the team in the early matches.

Two weeks following the MDL victory, the senior U17 colts team played in the League Cup Finals at at NPL Teddington having qualified by being unbeaten in the South Area league. The semi final against Bessborough was a nail-biter with Ealing winning off the last ball by 3 runs thanks to a superb last over from Rob Bentley. With Bessborough needing 10 to win, Rob restricted Bessborough to just 6 runs and took 2 wickets to give Ealing a victory that never looked on the cards. In the final against great rivals Sunbury, Ealing batted first and Louie Millman and Sam Turner got us off to a fantastic start putting on 65 for the first wicket in just 10 overs. However, we had a mini collapse losing 5 wickets in 4 overs in the mid order but excellent batting from Arthur Godsal and Ben Chippendale ensured we reached a very respectable 124-6 on an outfield more suited to a rugby match. Sunbury were always behind the run rate against tight bowling from all the Ealing bowlers with Rob Bentley agains leading from the front with 3 for 23 ably supported by Ben Chippendale and Tom Hodge both taking a brace whilst keeping the runs tight. After a collapse to 65-5, Sunbury pulled themselves back into contention to reach 110-5 but still required 13 off the last over. Again, Rob Bentley rose the the challenge with an excellent over taking 2 wickets for just one run to leave Sunbury 12 short leaving Ealing U17s to be receive the U17 County League cup.

With 4 players in the U17 League cup final team also playing the MDL final, the signs are very positive for the young talent to make a big impact in the senior teams over the next few seasons.
